Invitational Choral Festival

Schola Cantorum is hosting its first Invitational Choral Festival for high school choirs.  Five local high schools will be participating:

• The Carlmont High School Chamber Singers, Belmont (Genevieve Tep)
• The Treble Choir and Mixed Choir from Homestead High School, Cupertino (Jeff Morton)
• Monta Vista High School “Variations,” Cupertino (Shari D’Epiro)
• St Francis High School Chamber Choir, Mountain View (Margaret Durando).
• Palo Alto High School, Palo Alto (Michael Najar)

There will be approximately 240 singers in all, and with the support of Arts Council Silicon Valley and Applied Materials, Schola Cantorum is purchasing two pieces of music by Kirke Mechem for the choirs to learn and perform.  On the morning of the 17th, they will attend a workshop with Kirke Mechem, and that evening, each school will present a 15 minute program.  At the conclusion of the concert, Gregory Wait, Music Director of Schola Cantorum will conduct the massed choir in the two Mechem pieces.  It promises to be an outstanding event.
