Schola Cantorum’s concert season opens with an all-time audience and singer favorite – Brahms’ beloved and lush Ein deutsches Requiem. Music director, Gregory Wait, leads the chorus through Brahms’ arrangement scored for piano four-hands, an intimate setting affording the rare opportunity to hear and enjoy all those perfectly crafted choral nuances that make this one of the most expressive and moving pieces ever written. That’s not to say that the composer was without a lighter side, as you’ll discover when the choir dances through Brahms’ playful love-song waltzes, the sometimes lyrical, sometimes pensive, sometimes rollicking Liebeslieder Walzer, op. 52.
This concert is preceded by a Preludes pre-concert talk at 3:15 pm.
